How  complementary therapies can help

There's no doubt about it. A cancer diagnosis is life changing and challenging. So may thoughts going through your head, so many appointments, so many people to see. In some cases there is surgery, which can be painful and leave disfiguration. And then there's further treatments, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, hormone therapy or steroid therapy and all of the side effects that come with those treatments.

Complementary therapies can help reduce some of the side effects of these treatments and with the stress and anxiety that comes along with everything that is 'cancer', and at Mindful Touch Therapies you can rest assured that everyone is treated safely and effectively, with compassion and empathy. All therapies for cancer are booked for one hour. That hour is for you to focus on you and not the cancer.

All new clients will need a consent from completed by their consultant/GP prior to booking a treatment.

Please email: mindfultouchtherapies@outlook.com for the necessary forms to gain consent.

Scar management

A scar is formed as part of the healing process when the skin is damaged or cut. After damage the body goes through four stages of healing  to form a scar. However, the new scar tissue with have a different texture to the surrounding tissue, and a scar can be problematic even 10 years following trauma.

Scar management involves specialised techniques to address tightness and discomfort in post-surgery or long-term scars. This can be beneficial on any scar no matter how old. However, the earlier a scar can be managed the better the outcome, and scars from surgery can be treated soon after the inflammation stage has passed.

If you wish to have scar management, please book an initial consultation first, where you can discuss your requirements.

Massage

Having a massage is a lovely way to relax. However, if you have cancer and are receiving treatment then the massage will need to be adapted to ensure that it is safe for you.  This massage will be very gentle with a lighter touch than you would expect to receive at a spa or other massage therapists. Deep tissue is not advised when you have cancer due to the risk of disturbing cancer cells. Other factors will also need to be taken into consideration, such as removal of any lymph nodes, comfort following surgery and positioning to name but a few. However, even the most gentlest  touch has many benefits.

  • Stimulates circulation bringing oxygen and nutrients to the body and so aiding repair.

  • Stimulates the lymph system, removing waste from the body

  • Releases endorphins which acts as the body's natural pain relief

  • Encourages deep relaxation

  • Reduces muscle tension

  • Improves skin tone

  • Can help with insomnia
